Does the fact that you won’t buy a cream for 20+ skin in the drugstores, mean that twenty-year-olds do not have to take care of their skin? I have my opinion on this subject and I’m not alone in it. Although the mature skin is considered after the age of 25, we should start taking care of it as teenagers, but (what is important!) in a proper way. I will tell you about how I take care of my skin every day and what you should pay attention to if you are of a similar age. 🙂
When to start taking care of your complexion?
There are no clearly defined time frame. I know women who have not much to retire yet, and do not use any skin care cosmetics. I also know ladies who barely exceeded the 30’s and have already started using anti-wrinkle creams. And they all feel beautiful in their skin!
Every path is good in its own way, although it is not advisable to use cosmetics intended for mature skin too early or to completely skip skin care. Even the specialists warn about the effects of such mistakes, so do not treat it just as a blogger’s piece of advice.
Should the 20-year-old already use cosmetics?
Whenever I say I am still before 30 and I already have my set of skin care cosmetics and a daily ritual of taking care of my skin I see my friends genuinely surprised. They tend to say: ‘You are so young, why would you load the skin with so many cosmetics’. I do not care about these comments at all, because I know that even such a young skin needs support!
We live in a time when there are a lot of harmful factors affecting our complexion – toxins from a polluted environment, excessive stress and lack of sleep, high-processed products eaten in a hurry, climate change. Everything has an impact on the face and thus, the skin of a 20-year-old woman may be poorly moisturized, devoid of vitality, gray and uncomfortably astringent.
What does it mean? That even a 20-year-old should have a suitable face cream or natural oil in their makeup bag. I do have them so I recommend it from my own experience. 🙂
How to take care of your skin at the age of 20+?
In the care of young skin, fewer cosmetics are needed than in the case of mature skin. Nevertheless, it’s important to provide the optimal amount of nutrients needed – not necessarily those with anti-age qualities, but, for example, moisturizing, nourishing, adding vitality and radiant glow. As it turns out, even adolescents’ skin might suffer from their lack.
The most important are:
- to ensure the correct level of hydration,
- to provide nutrients,
- to prevent aging (not: rejuvenation).
The truth is that a complexion over 20 years of age should be almost perfect. I say that it should, because everyone has a different type of skin and can deal with problems that are independent of age such as rosacea. However, often times, the hormonal imbalance is way past us, youth acne disappears, and the aging processes have not yet begun, so we do not see the first wrinkles. You could say that’s the perfect time when the skin needs nothing.
Well, unfortunately, it needs hydration and a set of vitamins and minerals, for example, vitamin E, vitamin A, zinc, silicon, iron, biotin. All this is necessary so that it does not start to age too fast and maintains its very good condition for a long time.
My skin care principles
(maybe I will inspire someone)
- I choose a light day cream, but necessarily with an SPF (at least) 15.
- I choose a light gel for face washing, which contains moisturizing ingredients and creates an imperceptible film on the skin, preventing the water from evaporating through the epidermis, e.g. hyaluronic acid.
- At night I choose creams that are a bit heavier and richer, but still not too greasy, with more nutrients and antioxidants, eg vitamin E, which will help delay the aging process.
- For makeup removal, I use only micellar water with moisturizing ingredients or natural raspberry oil (it copes well with waterproof mascara).
- On a daily basis, I wear a very light makeup – BB cream, mascara, and lipstick.
In fact, our skin does not need anything more – moisturizing, sun protection, nourishment and delicacy in everyday care for yourself.
What can be harmful to the skin of 20-year-olds?
In fact, the biggest damage to our skin is made by… the sun. The one that strokes us with a pleasant ray of sun in the summer and introduces a blissful state of relaxation. It is our biggest enemy – photoaging is the biggest problem for women at an early age. UV radiation makes the skin dry and causes sagging. It becomes dull, rougher and simply unattractive. Also, wrinkles can appear much faster.
But this is not the only thing every woman should avoid. The condition of the 20+ skin may also worsen due to improper diet (fast food, excess sugars and fats), stress (especially chronic) and lack of sleep.
