Are we witnessing the death of matte lips trend? I don’t think so, though make-up artists do everything in their power to beat it. I’d like to introduce to you the weirdest and in my opinion failed propositions for lip make-up that were expected to dethrone the matte lipstick. Are you curious? 🙂
Let’s start at the beginning. For several seasons now, matte lips rule in make-up. They are a worthy replacement for all the lip glosses and shimmering lipsticks we had in the 90s. There are no signs that it goes anywhere anytime soon, though more and more propositions come up.
Here’s my list of the weirdest lip make-up trends!
Metallic lips
There were created special collections of metallic lipsticks in several shades that are expected to make futuristic make-up easier. Only, can gold lips suit everyone and always look sexy? I certainly do not think so. I did make-up like this once and let me tell you that metallic lips draw attention for a mile, even more than vivid red lipstick does. However, red lipstick makes you look classy, while metallic lips look just weird…
Ombre lips
It is a variation on regular lip make-up, which I must say is not that bad but gets disqualified by how time-consuming it is. Ombre lips are made with at least two lipsticks in two different colours (these can be matte), which needs to be combined to create a transition between colours that is not obvious. Who has time to make so much effort with the lipstick?
Holographic lips
Another exaggerated method is called holographic lips, which are not something you can wear as your everyday make-up, and that means it cannot replace our favourite matte. The holographic effect is gained by applying lipstick in the colour of your choice and on top of it applying holographic lip gloss. Another misguided proposition and again time-consuming.
Caviar lips
Now, for the dessert, we have the greatest hits of all, i.e. caviar lips. Well, I say no — not only it just looks ugly but also is super uncomfortable. In this case, we are dealing with an artistic variation about make-up, which can be helpful only for the photo shoot. The effect here is obtained by placing beading, or gems on the previously lipstick-treated lips.
What about me? In spite of, all the trials to show you that matte lips are not trendy anymore, I remain faithful to the boring matte nude lipstick. I love matte lips and I will wear it even when all the make-up artists will be telling me it’s lame. The only thing that matters is what makes you feel comfortable and remember about it every time you perform your make-up. 🙂
