I’m testing two oil mists by Kerastase. Which one will turn out to be a better one?

Hello Girls,

Today I would like to invite you to a cosmetic duel.

In the boxing ring we have got two spray hair oils produced by Kerastase, a brand that is probably known to everyone. I was testing them for two weeks to find out how they work with hair. Is there any real difference between the products? What are the substances used in the cosmetics? Which oil mist do I recommend? Keep reading! 🙂

In the right corner – a golden, dual-phase oil mist Elixir Ultime Oleo-Complexe Intra-Cylane. This Volume Beautifying Oil Mist is designed to treat fine hair. Its aim is to nourish hair and boost its volume.

In the left corner – Kerastase’s new product, which is a dual-phase oil mist that belongs to Aura Botanica, Essence D’Eclat series. It’s recommended to normal and sensitive hair. The product is named ‘Essence Of Shine’ and this should bring you closer to the features the product has.

Who’s going to be the winner?

Of course, when it comes to the price, both products are comparable, their design is also alike. The cosmetics are closed in bottles made of thick glass the shape of which is also similar. The issues that can be compared are: the list of ingredients, oils selection, and their performance.

1. Composition

This round is won by Aura Botanica. Kerastase decided to launch the product that is natural and biodegradable. For that reason, in Aura Botanica there were used ingredients of natural origins (their concentration is high). In other words, Aura Botanica features only a few synthetics and preservatives. What composes the greatest part of this product are the ‘good’ nourishing substances. This cosmetic equals 98% of natural ingredients which include coconut oil, argan oil as well as orange peel oil which smells really good. All the ingredients don’t only take care of hair but also protest against the damaging factors originated form the external environment.

Unfortunately, Kerastase Oleo Complexe is more synthetic and the alcohol content is higher. Sadly, alcohols added to a cosmetic don’t belong to the ‘safe’ group as they don’t evaporate from the hair surface. For that reason, overuse of Elixir Ultime might end up in hair dehydration. Anyway, this product deserves recognition due to the content of natural oils, which are argan oil, maze oil, sunflower oil and camellias oil.

It’s worth pointing out that natural oils contain plenty of vitamins and minerals. When ‘served’ with omega acids, they gain the additional ability of being absorbed by hair way faster.

2. Action

I have to admit that I applied both Kerastase oils to dry hair because they didn’t work for me at all when I distributed them to wet hair. I didn’t notice any improvement in hair shine nor elasticity. Simply, the condition of my strands remained unchanged. Therefore, I’ve chosen the second form of application (dry strands).

I have to tell you that both oils work really good. Hair gains shine and pretty looks. I like that the oils penetrate the hair almost the moment applied. Thanks to this, the strands are supplied with an immediate dosage of nourishing substances. My hair is fine and is affected by static really easily. Every time I try to make it more manageable, so whenever I use a smoothing product, the hair becomes overburdened and flat. Kerastase oils don’t weigh my hair down. Also, I didn’t experience the problem of strands clumped together. The truth is, Aura Botanica Elixir should be applied in smaller quantities because it has less silicones and alcohols that facilitate penetrating of the ‘heavier’ particles inside the hair. In other words, if we put on too much of the product, we may expect our hair to become overburdened. At the same time, Aura Botanica knows better how to take care of strands because it doesn’t dehydrate the hair in such a degree as Kerastase Oleo Complexe does, which, let’s be straight about this, contains too many polyol alcohols – the ones which are killing for our hair if applied in galore.

To sum up, if you are looking for a light oil mist designed for fine hair, give a go to Aura Botanica product. I totally recommend this cosmetic to you. I bet you’ll also fall in love with the citrus fragrance of the oil mist. Aura Botanica Essence d’Ecla fragrance doesn’t resemble typical hairdresser’s products as its twin Elixir Ultime does. I would describe its aroma as natural and fresh.
