Matching make-up, eye shadows in particular, with eye colour can be fairy tricky and troublesome. If your eyes are brown and you aren’t sure which shades you should go with, keep reading the article. Here you’re going to find some useful tricks and make-up inspirations.
What eye make-up suits brown eyes best?
It appears that women having brown colour of iris have the widest range of possibilities in terms of eye shadow colour choice. Almost all shades matches them. If your eyes are brown, you can simply match eye shadow colour to the outfit you are wearing.
However, in the case of brown eyes, there is one very crucial factor determining the selection of shades that can be applied to eyelids. Namely, you need to identify the hue of your eyes. To clarify, if your eyes is hazel, or when you recognize warmth tones in your iris, eye make-up you are going to apply should also be warm. If you spot rather dark, chocolate or cool reflexes – the eyeshadows should also be kept in cool tones.
Brown eye make-up. The tone of complexion
Another determinant that influences the final eye make-up effect is shade of your complexion. Find out whether your face skin is rather cool in tone or warm, and choose matching eye shadows. To clarify, warm, olive complexion goes with warm colours, gold, beige, peach-like shades, olive and vanilla. Cool complexion will look better with blue, dark blue, dark bronzes and purple shades.
Both types of complexion look good with nude shades.
Brown eye make-up. Eyelashes
Eyelashes of brown-eyed women are frequently dark by their nature so it’s better not to coat them with brown mascara because the shade of lashes will fade into iris. As a result, eyelashes won’t be enhanced at all. For that reason, it’s best to reach for the timeless classic, which is a black mascara.
If you feel like adding a little bit of extravaganza to you looks, you can go for some other (still dark) shade of a mascara. For example, you can give a try to dark green, dark blue or dark violet mascara. Basically, a blue mascara that has a nice shade (cornflower) should also look good as a component of brown eye make-up. The only condition here is that this blue colour must be well-pigmented.
Daily brown eye make-up. What colours to choose?
This eye make-up looks best if you use neutral eye shadows. Also, all matte shades or shades with subtle, satin finish will do as well. Brightly sparkling pearl shades are more suitable for evening, however, if you are a fan of this kind of shades, you can use them, yet in scarce. Just to accentuate the eyelid delicately. For example, you can use a fair beige pearl shade to apply it to the inner corner of the eye.
Moreover, apart from fair and dark bronzes (matching either cool or warm skin tone), you can play with greys, dark blue or green shades for daily brown eye make-up.
Daily brown eye make-up. How to apply it?
Here is one idea for daily brown eye make-up:
- Apply an eyeshadow primer. Thanks to this, you will extend the lifespan of eye shadows.
- Apply a very light, matte vanilla shade right above brow arch. You can also apply it to the inner corner of the eye to brighten your look.
- Cover your mobile eyelid with a light brown colour (when your iris is fair, honey-shaded), or dark brown (if your iris is dark, chocolate-shaded). You can use the shade only on the mobile eyelid, or subtly enhance above the crease area. To do it, apply it to the crease starting from more or less 2/3 of the entire crease (the outer corner of the eye). Thanks to this you will achieve the cat’s eye effect.
- Reach for an eye pencil which colour is one tone darker than the shade applied to your eyelid. Draw a line at the lash base and try to blend it delicately (you can use a Q-tip). You can do the same to the lower eyelid as well. If you want to enhance your eyes even more, you can apply an eye shadow of similar colour.
- Coat your lashes with a black mascara precisely. If you want to make your make-up exceptional, you can reach for a mascara of some other dark colour.
Evening brown eye make-up. How to apply it?
The base for evening eye make-up can be the above-described daily version of eye make-up. This type of make-up can be enhanced if you reach for other shades of eye pencil, or accentuate the outer corner of the eye using shades of bold colours such as violets, azure shades, greys combined with pearl shades or this season trendy metallic shades. When applying evening brown eye make-up, you can also highlight brow arch and the inner corner of the eye using pearl, sparkling shades that deliver intensive effect.
However, bear in mind that the more intensive eye make-up you apply, the less saturated lipstick should be used. When doing heavy eye make-up such as smoky eye, choose light shades of lipstick that are similar to your natural lip colour. Matte or satin lipstick seems to be a perfect choice here.
