Why & How to Use Hydrosols? The Best Flower Waters, Descriptions

Immerse in nature, put your face toner and SLS conditioner away, make some aromatic tea (preferably, rose tea cause I focus on flowers today) and read the post: it might turn your skin care over forever.

Today, the story about hydrosols, or floral waters. What they are, where they come from and why they’re worth using in the beauty care.

Hydrosols are all-natural, free of chemicals and synthetic substances, waters that are produced through the distillation of plants (with water steam). Their properties are very similar to the qualities of essential oils yet they’re far more delicate. Essential oils are most common in aromatherapy; if applied to the skin, they may trigger irritations. Hydrosols are subtler versions of essential oils; they’re simply fluid plant extracts. A mild and multitasking essence of beauty.

Hydrosols are common in an everyday beauty care and work much better than synthetic toners yet toning isn’t their only task. Use them for different things.

  • For healing compresses and soothing irritations.
  • For mixing clay in a DIY mask.
  • As a base for a favourite face oil, cream, serum, etc.
  • Instead of thermal water on hot days.
  • As a leave-in hair and scalp conditioner.

Hydrosols immediately tone the skin. Their ingredients penetrate the skin, bringing the skin balance back, controlling the sebum secretion, strengthening, moisturising and removing blemishes.

The best hydrosols for face skin – comparison

If you don’t know which one to choose, I’ve prepared short descriptions of the best face hydrosols. You’re going to find the one made for you, that’s for sure.

Juniper Hydrosol

It’s the best for the oily and acne-prone skin and abounds in vitamins A, C, E. This hydrosol ensures an excellent detox for the skin. Juniper hydrosol soothes inflammation, relieves irritated skin, increases the blood flow and regulates the sebum secretion. That’s why you can use it both for the face skin and scalp. It holds oiliness back.

Rockrose Hydrosol

It’s an allay of the acne-prone and discoloured skin; it does away with post-acne scars and pigmentation spots. Rockrose hydrosol cleans the skin and makes skin pores less visible. It takes a great care of the under-eye skin, eliminating puffiness and dark circles. The hydrosol fixes micro-damage of the skin. It’s also suitable for the men’s skin care cause it prevents after-shave wounds. Rockrose hydrosol incredibly tightens the skin and stimulates the blood circulation.

Witch-hazel Hydrosol

It’s an effective ally in the fight for young skin because the witch-hazel is the strongest antioxidant among hydrosols. It’s ideal for the skin that’s prone to redness, acne breakouts and spider veins. The hydrosol freshens and soothes irritations, cares for the mature and vascular skin, has antiseptic properties, fights bacteria and redness, reinforces blood vessels. As a result, red spider veins are less common.

Melissa Hydrosol

Perfect for the dry and dull skin. It hydrates, soothes and reduces the feeling of discomfort and tight skin. It brings back a nice skin tone, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities. Melissa hydrosol is a saver in winter when the skin is exposed to dryness e.g. due to frost and dry air of heaters. It prevents wrinkles and is a wonderful skin toner.

Rosemary Hydrosol

It’s mostly dedicated for hair care, to be more precise – scalp care. Rosemary hydrosol is recommended as a remedy for weak and thinning hair and, most of all, for the scalp affected by dandruff and too much sebum secretion. It gently strengthens the hair bulbs, protects the hair from falling out. It’s ideal for weak hair lacking vitality and shine. Rosemary hydrosol cares for the oily and acne skin, too. It makes a perfect 2in1 product – feel free to apply it to the face skin and scalp.

Rose Hydrosol

Girls, the damask rose is a total skincare hit. It tones and nourishes, repairs tired and mature skin, restoring its healthy colour, shine and freshness. Rose hydrosol is an amazing remedy for wrinkles and the skin that lacks firmness. It can be also used for the acne skin because it soothes well. Rose water smooths and moisturises the skin, brightens and enhances its shade. When applied to hair, it delivers bounce and softness.

Camomile Hydrosol

Camomile has been known for ages as a substance for soothing the irritated and over-dried skin. That’s why it’s recommended for all of the sensitive ones who struggle with eczema, nettle rash, extremely dry skin and other imperfections. Camomile is suitable for the fragile baby’s skin and under-eye area, too. Camomile hydrosol is going to help when your skin reacts wrongly to a cosmetic or you irritate it with a strong makeup remover.

The hydrosols, which I described above, are the most popular beauty care waters. Choosing a hydrosol in an atomiser bottle is the best idea because the application involves spraying it onto the skin or hair. I use the Witch-hazel hydrosol and it’s extremely easy to apply: I spray it onto the face skin after removing makeup. Next, I let it absorb and apply argan oil. After a few minutes, I use a night cream. Voila! 🙂 Do you use hydrosols? Have you found the one made for you among the hydrosols I described? 🙂
